Haircare: Redken – Worth The Price For Salon Professional Haircare?

What is Redken?

Have you ever been to a hair salon where they display all of the products they use and wondered what was so different from the ones they used compared to ones you can buy in the supermarkets?

Well, today’s blog post is all about Redken and I can happily start off by saying that this brand is the main reason I get so many compliments about my hair! I can’t express how soft it feels, as well as how shiny and healthy it looks despite having ombré, balayage, full-head colouring, etc. done to my hair in the last few years and I never have problems with frizz or static hair.

It all started off with a sample from my usual hair salon that I use, which is a stockist for Redken. I was curious about the brand and whether the products were any different from your usual TRESemmé, Pantene, L’Oréal, etc. My hair stylist gave me some samples to try. After I tried the samples, the next time I visited my salon, I bought the full-sized bottles of the products and I have not looked back since!

What Is My Favourite Range From Redken?

My favourite range by Redken is the Diamond Oil, which is an oil-based range that is used for dull, damaged, medium to coarse hair. It is silicone-free to prevent any further damage to hair, and strengthens the hair to make it look and feel more healthy.

I love the Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo and Conditioner because as well as being oil-enriched, it has a shimmering gel formula in the shampoo that strengthens hair to prevent breakage and delivers a radiant shine at the same time. The conditioner is also formulated using the same shimmering gel and has a blend of apricot, camelina and coriander oils, which leaves your hair smelling amazing! I love using oil-based hair products because the oil seals off, covers and smooths the cuticles of the hair. This is to prevent damage from the environment and also leaves the hair feeling nice and silky.

Which Redken Range is the Best For Colour-Treated Hair?

If you have your hair dyed or have previously had your hair dyed, you’ll know that the maintenance that you require for your hair is much more than when you hadn’t dyed your hair, as all the chemicals from the dying process has caused the hair to become thin, dry and very prone to breakage. So, this next product works miracles for keeping your hair healthy

It is the Colour Extend Magnetics range, which contains glutamic acid and serine. These are both amino acids that help damaged hair to regain its hydrophobicity (water-repellent). This means the amino acids help to fill in pores in the cuticle, which strengthens and locks in the moisture in the hair.

Serine and glutamic acid are both amino acids involved in making the protein Keratin, as amino acids are the building blocks that make a protein. So, by adding these amino acids to the product means that the hair can absorb these amino acids to build up the protein that may have been damaged in the colouring process. Keratin is a very important protein in hair, as it is a fibrous protein which gives strength and elasticity to the inner and outer structure of the hair.

Where Do I Normally Buy My Redken Products?

So, where do I normally buy my Redken products? I normally buy them off FeelUnique.com, which always has discount codes or offers on the brand. You get free delivery with every order over £15 and it offers a 10% student discount through Unidays. Feel Unique have also recently introduced their ‘Feel Unique Platinum‘ scheme. It is free to join and you can get 10% off your favourite brand whenever you add it to your basket, which is automatically taken off at the checkout.

The best thing about Feel Unique is that they always send you two free samples of your choice if you spend over £30. Sometimes with certain products you get a free sample included, just like the two samples you can see in the pictures below.

Do I Think That Redken Products Are Worth the Price You Pay?

All in all, I believe that the Redken products are worth it for the price you pay for them! The difference in the health of your hair is noticeable within the first week of using the products every day. I do believe that to get the best out of the products, you actually condition your hair after shampooing your hair. This is because shampoo cleanses your hair and removes essential oils needed to maintain the hair. However, conditioner will help to seal the cuticles of the hair and prevents water loss through the cuticles, so your hair stays moisturised and in a healthy condition.
