ANNOUNCEMENT & Money Saving Tips: What is Cashback? How Does It Work?

I hope everyone is having an amazing week so far! I just thought I’d start the blog by announcing that I finally have my own personal domain and I am so happy to share it with you! I thought it’d be well worth the investment and saves you time trying to type it on Google all the time, so now all you need to search is theconfessionsofanonlineshopaholic.com and you’ll find yourself directed to my blog! Thank you for everyone’s support so far, it has really motivated me to write more for you all and I love sharing my life with you all!

So now that I have made my announcement, today’s blog post is about my biggest secret on how I save money and it really is about how every little penny counts!

Some people may have heard about cashback, but don’t know what it’s all about. I am not referring to the cashback that credit cards offer, or asking for cashback at a retail store. The cashback I’m referring to is the commission that a company earns from being paid by retailers due to referring customers to the retailers. ‘Commission‘ is the payment earned from the number of sales you make. So, the more customers that are referred to a particular retailer, the more sales the retailer gets and hence a higher commission is paid to the company that referred the retailer. (I have never studied Business Studies or anything business-related in my life, so please correct me if I’m wrong!)

The site I use for cashback is a real life-saver in my eyes. I have used this website since 2014, and I have never looked back since. This website is Quidco. Some of you may or may not have heard of Quidco, but Quidco is an online cashback website.

Quidco is easy and free to sign up to. Whenever you shop online, you can search through Quidco’s long list of retailers that they work with and click on the link that says how much the cashback percentage is and whether you’re a new customer or not, and this will take you to the retailer’s website. For example, ASOS offer 10.5% cashback for new customers currently, so click on the percentage or the ‘shop now‘ link and this will take you to the retailer.

Screen Shot 2017-01-31 at 21.12.53.pngA message will then pop up to tell you the cashback terms and conditions, so you click ‘I understand, visit retailer‘ and this should record that you have visited the website and this will take you to ASOS.

Then once on ASOS, you can start buying whatever takes your fancy. It may take a few hours for your cashback to record, but once it does it will show up in your Quidco Activity page and you can track the process of your cashback.

Once the cashback has been confirmed by the retailer, it will be paid into your Quidco account, where you can then choose how the cashback is paid to you. There are several ways that you can get paid, these are:

Bank transfer

Paypal

Amazon gift card

The Entertainer gift card

Debenhams gift card

H.Samuel gift card

Ernest Jones gift card

I mostly prefer to be paid directly to my bank account, so that I can use the cashback that I got paid into my account to go and buy other things. So, this is my way of making my money back to go and buy more things (not good for a shopaholic like myself!) Do be aware that cashback can take a few weeks or a few months to be paid to you, so you have to be patient and wait for the cashback to come through!

Quidco also offer voucher codes with cashback together, so look out for this on their ‘Top Voucher Codes‘ page. You can get cashback in some retailers in-store, as well as online if you connect your credit/debit card to your Quidco account. However, you have to go on the ‘Mobile and High Street Offers‘ page to activate the offers, so that it will connect with your phone and card, and the cashback will be tracked if you were to pay using your card or phone in those retailers. I have never personally used this part of Quidco’s in-store cashback before so I couldn’t comment on how good it is at tracking the purchases made in-store.

To this day, Quidco has paid me over £200 in cashback, so that is £200 more that I can spend on more shopping or travelling or saving for a rainy day, so Quidco is worth joining if you do a lot of online shopping like me!

So, why not click on my referral link below to sign yourself up and earn £3.00 automatically into your Quidco account to get yourself started on your cashback journey!
