Happy New Year!
So, for my first blog post, I thought I’d start off by sharing my recent trip to Birmingham in the UK with my boyfriend, to celebrate the end of 2016 and bringing in 2017.
I really enjoy travelling to different cities, as the vibe in every city is different. I live near Manchester personally, which is a vibrant city full of diversity and is very open to people from all walks of life.
Travelling to Birmingham would be my third time visiting this lovely city, and I always love visiting here because the main city centre is very modern and well laid out that you don’t get lost too easily. Birmingham is a must to travel to in the UK, with it being the second largest city in the UK. The transport is very convenient and everything is only a 10-15 minute walk away from the main train station, being mainly Birmingham New Street.
The best part of travelling to the New Street Station is that there is a shopping centre within the train station itself, which is the Grand Central. If you walk about 3-5 minutes out of the station, you will find the Bullring Shopping Centre, which has such a broad range of shops that you could be there for absolutely hours! Some of the popular shops you’ll find there are Victoria’s Secret, Debenhams, Boots, Selfridges, Forever 21, Hollister, Michael Kors, Zara, Pandora…I could go on forever, but check out the website for the full list of shops.
I went sales shopping in the Bullring for at least 3 hours and managed to get a massive bargain on the Michael Kors Glam Jasmine gift box in Boots. It features a Glam Jasmine 50ml perfume, a Glam Jasmine perfume rollerball with a lipgloss on the other end of it, a Glam Jasmine body lotion and a Michael Kors clutch bag. This set was originally over £80 I think, but I can’t seem to find the product online anymore to be able to share the price. The sale price was £58, but when I went to the till the customer assistant told me that no price was scanning through and the Boots website had taken the product down as it was out of stock, so they gave me the gift set for £39.99 and I’m not going to complain about that price! An alternative to this set is the “Michael Kors ‘Glam Jasmine’ eau de parfum 50ml gift set“, which you can find on Boots or Debenhams for £40 before it goes back to the original price of £60.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency hotel that was in Centenary Square. This was a beautiful high-rise 4-star hotel and we were placed on the 18th floor, which had beautiful views of the square.
We had booked to have the 5-course dinner at the Aria Restaurant in the hotel for our NYE dinner and it was an absolutely gorgeous meal to end 2016!
Lobster Mousse with Champagne Dressing
Sea Bass with Leek and Red Wine Sauce
Pea Soup with Bacon Panna Cotta
Veal Loin with Toasted Grains and Chantenay Carrots
Chocolate Yule Log with Ginger and Cardamom Ice Cream
I can’t forget the beautiful dress that I wore for the Black Tie event from Chi Chi London, which was such a stunning black dress. You can use the code ‘welcome10‘ on their website currently to get 10% off your purchase or 15% off if you have student discount! The picture also features my beautiful YSL bag, which I got for my 20th birthday.
Following the meal, we went back to the room to pop the champagne ready to welcome 2017 by watching the fireworks from the panoramic windows and it was such a beautiful moment as soon as the clock hit 00:00. You could still see ice skaters on the rink and the crowds of people below watching the fireworks, and it was just incredible! I would definitely recommend to go to the Hyatt and watch the fireworks from Centenary Square next year if you prefer a quieter NYE celebration with your friends, family or your partner.
To start the New Year off in the right way, we ordered breakfast in bed, so that we could spend a little more time lounging in bed before we headed back to the train station to go home. We had french toast and a pastry basket, and it was so worth the price paid for it!
I hope you enjoyed my first blog, and it inspired you to book a city break and explore the culture. Don’t forget to subscribe to see my future blogs!
