Bed Speed Dating Event?! – How To Choose A Silentnight Beds Mattress

Bed Speed Dating Event by Silentnight

So, this is one of my most exciting posts to date! I got invited to be a part of the Silentnight Beds world’s first ‘Bed Speed Dating’ Event. This is part of the new Choices campaign that Silentnight are running. The aim of this campaign is to spread the news that everyone is different when it comes to sleeping. One size or style of mattress doesn’t suit everyone. This event allowed fellow bloggers and members of the public to join in and find their perfect bed match. I invited my friend Jess to come and join me and we had such a fun day out! We were offered the chance to try an array of mattresses from Silentnight, pillows and storage units from divans to ottomans.

“Would I really turn down an event that allows me to go around sleeping on different beds for an hour or two?!”

I have to be honest, I was never clued up on mattresses before I picked my current mattress. I purchased mine over a year ago when I moved into my new house, and I wish I had been to this event first! So, before getting into the post, I highly recommend seeking some expert advice from sales advisors at Silentnight showrooms. Especially if you don’t know what type of mattress you require.

How Did The Event Work?

We rotated around the stand set up in the Trafford Centre, in Manchester. There were 8 beds on offer for us to trial. We were given a brief description on each bed, such as, what material it’s made from, and what type of person may like the bed. We then had to give each bed a score out of 10, and this was such a tough choice!

“Essentially, I spent the day in a dressing gown and slippers. I couldn’t think of a better event to be invited to!”

What Bed Did I Not Rate Highly?

I rated ‘The Supportive One’ the lowest, with a score of 5/10. This was the Eco Comfort Miracoil Ortho bed. The firmness rating on this bed was ‘extra firm‘. I tend to be a side-sleeper and I love mattresses that are soft, but yet firm to support my spine whilst I sleep. This means I tend to go for beds that are ‘medium soft’ or ‘medium firm’. However, anything outside of these two ratings, I tend to not be so keen on. I found this bed to be too solid for my liking, and hence I did not rate it highly.

Did I Come Across Any Interesting Beds?

‘The Responsible One’ is the first environmentally-friendly bed I’ve ever tried. The concept behind this bed, is that they use recyclable materials likes plastic bottles to produce the bed. Most notably, this bed is also 100% recyclable when the bed comes to the end of its cycle. The bed is a medium-firm, so for those who prefer more support when they sleep, but yet the bed has an added softness to it, this bed is perfect for you. If you’re looking for this mattress, it’s called the Eco Comfort Pocket 1200.

For those who get a little hot and bothered, ‘The Dynamic One’ may be the one for you. It’s the Geltex Pocket Ultra 3000 mattress. It is medium-soft on firmness rating and has a mirapocket support system. It also contains Geltex and Ultraflex bed filling, which is a great combination. Furthermore, the Geltex offers breathability to prevent overheating, this allows you to have a cooler night’s sleep. The mattress would be especially useful for those in warmer countries or those who tend to get really hot when they sleep. The Ultraflex is made up of 1000 tiny springs, that provides great, luxury support while you sleep.

What Was My Favourite Bed?

‘The Dependable One’ has to be my absolute favourite. From the moment I laid eyes on the bed, I was in love with it. The bed is a Latex Pocket 2000 mattress, which is rated as medium-soft. On the top of the bed, it’s made of latex, which adds a little extra comfort to the mattress. Therefore, as I’m a side-sleeper, this bed is perfect for me. The softness of the bed means my body moulds into the mattress and the mirapocket spring system means I get the support I need.

I’ve never heard of bed speed dating, but I know it’s something I would love to be part of, especially since I’m picky with my bed’s XD. The concept is pretty cool, and you can save a lot of trouble by being able to spend more time with the mattress up front! Oh man, I would probably rate “The Supportive One” the same because I hate solid beds, haha. Medium-soft beds are the best! Glad you took part of this event!

I think it’s the first concept that has ever been done, so it was definitely a unique event! I can guarantee after this event, you’d be even more picky haha! The various materials will have your brain in a pickle over which you find better and which you don’t like at all! Yes that’s definitely true, nothing worse than buying a mattress without trialing everything else available first. At least it isn’t just me, I don’t think I could get comfortable in it haha! Thank you so much! ????

This event sounds like paradise. I’m with you! I like mine medium firm (I think). Not too hard but I hate soft ones. I’m so fussy with my mattress but I know next to nothing about them. This was really interesting x

Aww that’s true, but when you finally get a new mattress, I’m sure it’ll feel insane! At least you’ll have something to look forward to when you move ☺️

This is so cute! What a fun event–looks like there were plenty of snooze-worthy spots to choose from. Also congrats on the event, that’s so huge!

Brilliant post Jenny! I can imagine this was really fun, when I go to furniture shops I also want to get in all of the beds haha ???? I am quite a fussy sleeper and I do notice if other people mattresses are not as soft but I didn’t think there would be so happy different types to chose from to cater for everyone so this is amazing!! Well done on another amazing opportunity! Xxx

Thank you Sharnah! Haha it really was and I’m the same, the temptation is so real ???? I’m exactly the same, it’s so annoying because I wish I was the type of person who could sleep anywhere and be comfortable ???? thank you so much lovely! ☺️xxx

This is new and must have been a fun event. I’m a clean freak so I probably would’ve been real cautious especially because of bed bugs, BUT putting that aside this would be so fun to get to experience the feels of different beds. Well I guess that’s where the robe comes in right? Pretty smart idea lol. I’m in need of a new mattress so now I’m literally looking up this place!

    • March 19, 2018 / 9:08 pm

Haha it definitely was! I think they may have been brand new mattresses if I’m not mistaken, as I saw a timelapse they uploaded on their social media of them un-packaging the beds for the event, otherwise I’m a bit of a clean-freak as well haha! It was certainly an interesting event, because I don’t think I’ve ever sampled so many beds haha! I hope you find something you like and thank you for reading! ☺️
