Travel Diary Part 4 – Surfing the Clouds With Helidosa, Punta Cana

Happy New Year! We’ve finally reached the final chapter of my travel diary and today I’m concluding with the trip of a lifetime! It was my absolutely incredible helicopter ride with Helidosa!

Cloud Nine With Helidosa

On the last day of my time in the Dominican Republic, we decided to go all out and book our first ever trip on a helicopter! Because why not? We were celebrating me and my boyfriend’s 21st birthday, so we wanted to do something extra special. I couldn’t think of anything better than a bird’s eye view of the beautiful country that we were so lucky to stay in for the past week!

Why Would You Recommend Helidosa?

I contacted this company the night before we decided to book the trip (we were being spontaneous for once). They were absolutely fantastic! They replied to my email extremely quickly and were so accommodating. We managed to get a helicopter flight for 2pm the next day. Leaving us plenty of time to get lunch before the journey.

Round trips to and from your hotel to the Helidosa site were included in the price. This meant the whole journey was stress-free from start to finish. When you get there, you watch a safety video demonstrating what to do before you embark on your journey into the sky and once you’re in-flight.

Would You Advise This For Someone Scared of Heights?

100%! I’m scared of heights and I will never go on rollercoasters, and I was very nervous before the flight. However, when helicopters take off, they essentially hover and slowly reach a higher altitude. Unlike planes, where you feel the force of the engine and you can instantly feel like you’re off the ground.

“I hadn’t even realised how far off the ground we were until I looked down!”

This helicopter was not one of those where you could stick your feet out of thankfully – this dramatically reduced my fear! I wish I sat in the front seat of the helicopter now haha!

Is It Worth The Price?

So, people are always going to wonder if a helicopter is worth the price and how much it is, so I may as well be honest! It was a 15-minute journey costing $129USD per person, so it was ~£196 each. It is a little steep, I will admit! However, the 15-minutes seemed like it lasted longer than that! It included a round-trip private taxi journeys, which were about 30-minutes to and from our hotel.

I have never been to a tropical destination until this holiday, so I really wanted to see the tropical rainforests from above. I missed out on Los Haitises due to time restrictions, but it’s a national park in the north-east of the island.

The footage I managed to shoot from above was so stunning! The memory of this journey will stay with me and Tom for life, I’m sure! I ticked off another thing off my bucket list, so for this reason, I believe that this helicopter trip was so worth the price!

I’m going to leave my travel footage of the helicopter flight and the holiday below! Think I’ve realised I need to invest in a gimbal after how hard it was to edit the footage on Premiere Pro!

Memories to Last a Lifetime:

I hope you enjoyed the last of my Dominican Republic Travel Diary! I’m so sad it has come to an end, but it was one of the best holidays I have ever been on. I am so, so blessed to be able to go on such extraordinary trips. I will never take the ability to travel for granted!

If you would like to read my other parts to my travel diary, I have listed them below:

Travel Diary Part 1 – Excellence El Carmen, Dominican Republic

Travel Diary Part 2 – Dolphin Discovery, Punta Cana

Travel Diary Part 3 – Compay Eco-Safari, Dominican Republic

Do you have anything on your bucket list that you wish to tick off?

it is nice to know that even if you are afraid of heights you will be okay! but wow that is expensive but I bet it is totally worth it because of the stunning views and from watching the video it seems like you covered a lot of distance! The colour of the sea is gorgeous and the church(i think it is a church) is sooooo pretty! I want to go to the Caribbean even more after this 🙁 haha! xx

Haha yeah definitely, I was always off-put by the idea because I get a sinking feeling when I fly in a plane, never mind a helicopter 😂 yeah it was definitely worth it because I’m not sure when I can next do that again in such a stunning place! Haha yeah the excursions took us out to surrounding areas, so it was lovely to see the different scenery. Haha yeah it was their cathedral there, it was absolutely beautiful! Aww, I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance ☺️ thank you so much for reading and watching the video too ❤️xx
