I can finally write this blog post after planning it for well over a month! I moved to a new-build house in October, so everything in my house was a blank canvas. I’ve moved house three times in my life and I’ve moved to two new-builds in my life and I know how fortunate I am to be able to live somewhere completely brand new. I have my parents to be so grateful for because they work endless hours 6 out of 7 days a week to build the life that we have now.
So, 4 months later I can finally say that I have finished designing my bedroom the way I want it and that I am happy with. There was a massive delay in this post due to waiting for everything to arrive and because I’m a perfectionist, so I needed everything to be absolutely spot-on before taking any pictures for this blog and also because I’m hardly home because I’m balancing two jobs whilst trying to post content on my blog, so I essentially have three jobs, which left me with little time to dedicate to looking for finishing touches for my room.
Before moving house, I spent a lot of time on Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr looking for inspiration for my bedroom. I first started off by asking myself…
“What colour theme do you want?”
And I decided that I’d love a black, white and grey colour theme throughout my room. With the colour theme decided, I just now needed to decide what type of colours I wanted for the big items in my room, such as my bed, blinds, flooring and wardrobe.
For the blinds, flooring and wardrobe we decided to use local companies in my town because my parents believe in supporting other smaller companies that aren’t run by big corporations, as they always deliver better and more personalised customer care.
For the flooring, myself and my family collectively chose a stone coloured carpet that runs throughout the house and it really compliments the modern design of the house because grey is essentially the next black. We got the carpets done by Cristini Carpet Centre.
The next thing I chose was my made-to-measure wardrobe and the design I wanted and the colour of the wardrobe carcass. I chose a wooden carcass with an ashy grey colour with sliding floor-to-ceiling mirrored doors to maximise the reflection of light in my room to make the room look bigger than it is. It also has LED spotlights on the framework at the top of the wardrobe, and my dad added some DIY LED spotlights to the bottom part of the framework. The wardrobes were made and fitted by Monarch Bedrooms.

The next thing I picked was the blinds. I picked blinds over the traditional curtains because I felt that curtains would make my windowsill look much smaller than it was and I wanted to maximise the light that came into my room, and curtains would be a bit of an obstruction. So, I opted for Roman Blinds that fold into a horizontal concertina pattern and don’t obstruct the sunlight when they are pulled up. The blinds were made and fitted by Apple Blinds.
The final last big item I picked was my bed. I spent hours and days looking for the perfect bed. I had to decide…
“What size bed do I actually want?”
And, ultimately decided to go for a double bed, because I’ve never had a double bed and always dreamed of being able to sprawl in my bed and have enough space to work on it (I’m too lazy to work at a desk). After searching for ages on endless websites, I found a Parisian-style bed that didn’t look too over-the-top and still complimented my room well. I found the bed on Very, and I just had to get it!
The duvet cover, lamps, throw and ‘There is Beauty in Simplicity‘ cushion are all from Dunelm.
So, to start the finishing touches to my bedroom, I needed some bedside tables. I had actually been waiting for some other bedside tables for 3 weeks and decided it was taking a ridiculous amount of time because they kept delaying my order, so I cancelled the order and bought these lovely bedside tables instead that admittedly only arrived yesterday, so it was the last finishing touch I needed for me to create this blog post. I got them from Furniture123.
Decoration is the key to personalising your room! You’re probably looking at the pictures of my bedside table and thinking where I got some of the decor. The credits go to some of the companies I’m currently collaborating with, that helped me to add the finishing touches to my room.
The first company I’m going to talk about is YourDesign, who contacted me about working with them. They are my first collaboration and I’m so excited to show off their products. They are a company that specialise in making personalised gifts, clothing and home decor. I received a lovely complimentary cushion from them with a design I made, and it added a lovely, homely touch to my bed!
After receiving my cushion, I just couldn’t help myself and ordered some items myself from their website. I have been working on some typography pieces in my spare time, as I used to love graphic designing as a pass-time, and sent them an order for an A1 poster I designed and it turned out better than I imagined. I’ve only printed out my work on A4 so far, so I was worried that it wouldn’t look great when it was blown up on a bigger scale, but it looked amazing and the quality of the printing and paper were better than I could have asked for!
I have also been looking for some personalised cups and candles to add to my bedside table, and I found that YourDesign actually made those too, so I sent my personalised design for my cup and candle and even got my logo on the back of my cup!
So, with Mother’s Day coming up and any other special occasions you may have in the next year, YourDesign is the perfect website to go to get yourself or your loved ones some personalised gifts and you can use my code ‘shopaholic‘ for 15% off your order!
And for the Instagrammable decor that I have on my other bedside table, this is all from Coconut Lane! I’m happy to announce that I am officially a Coconut Queen for this lovely online boutique! Coconut Lane sells all sorts of decor that you just can’t help but Instagram, from wall art to clothing and accessories.
Decor from Coconut Lane
I’m in love with their wall art and their stationery and especially their rose gold Macbook skin! I think every blogger is on the marble and rose gold hype at the moment, so all of these items would look amazing on Instagram and Pinterest. You can get 20% off Coconut Lane if you use my code ‘jenniferwl20‘!
And to the final bits of decor in my room, the windowsill also needs some love, and I love the Zoella Lifestyle ‘My Eden’ range and my absolute favourite Garden Sweetpea diffuser and candle from Yankee Candle. The tray that holds these items is from IKEA.
The ‘Design a Life That You Will Love’ typography piece is something I made in my spare time.
