So… I’m back with another hair post again today! I went for a balayage technique rather than ombré, as it blends the highlights better with my natural coloured hair. There are plenty of Youtube videos that show you the various techniques people used for this kit. I used my fingers to apply the colour, as it gave me a better ability to blend the colour. I used the new L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré kit to lighten up my hair and I’m about to tell you how it turned out!
Just A Pre-Warning!
Please, please, please always do a skin test before you apply any hair dyes! I wouldn’t want anyone to have an allergic reaction! This post was not sponsored, I was just really interested in doing my own hair, so I wanted to brave it!
I’ve also had my hair lightened about twice before using this kit, so my hair was already relatively light. However, I decided to lighten it further, as my current balayage ombré had started to go brassy again. People who have never used bleach in their hair and also have relatively dark hair may only see a very small difference from dark brown to a lighter brown. If you are to achieve a more blonder ombré, you may need to use the kit a further once or twice – obviously leaving some time for your hair to repair.
This was my hair before applying the Colorista kit:
“I spend approximately £100 on every hair salon trip, so the L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré saved me £90! It’s better than going to the hair salon to maintain your colour!”
The kit is a very affordable £7.99! It is definitely better for those who are on a budget, as opposed to spending around £60-100 in a hair salon!
How Long Does It Take To Use the L’Oréal Colorista Kit?
From applying the dye, to rinsing it out with the shampoo included with the kit, it took just under 2 hours. It took me 35 minutes to apply the dye to my hair, because I have thick and fine long hair.
This was what my hair looked like after I finished applying the lightener:
“Good things take time to happen right?”
I developed the dye in my hair for approximately 40-minutes for maximum lift, and checked on my hair every so often. I did not wrap my hair in foil or film, but I know that this can help those who have never bleached their hair before.
My hair after 40-minutes:
Looking at the difference between the pictures before 40-minutes and after 40-minutes, there is definitely a visible change in how much the colour has developed!
“You may feel silly with a towel wrapped around you, but it’s better than ruining your clothes!”
So, What Was Your Verdict?
My verdict of the L’Oreal Colorista Effects Ombré kit is a pretty positive one. The technique I used made it easy to blend the colour and it lightened my hair at least another 1-2 shades. You can see my hair after my last hair salon treatment here for comparison!
“I am definitely more blonde now than I was before.”
The great thing about this kit is that you don’t have to be an expert to use it. The kit comes with great instructions on how to mix the product. However, I would highly suggest going on YouTube first to see the variety of techniques people used. The only thing I didn’t like about the product is the strong smell of ammonia. Make sure you use the product in a well-ventilated room and keep your windows open!
How Do You Reduce Brassiness of Your Hair After Treatment?
Two words….purple. shampoo. Shampoos and conditioners that are for blondes normally contain violet pigments. These violet pigments help to counteract any brassy tones that are left following the lifting of the colour pigment in your hair. If you have naturally dark hair like me, you are more likely to be susceptible to brassy tones. If you’re interested in the best purple shampoo and conditioner that I’ve found that works, you can read about my Redken Blonde Idol review here!
SHOW US WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!!!
Okay, okay I probably saved the best to last, but here are the pictures of my hair after using the L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré:
Straight Hair, Don’t Care…
Wavy Hair, Mermaid Hair…
So I guess the kit works! I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out! Now I won’t fear the dreaded box dyes, and trying to have a little courage to be braver actually did me a favour – especially for my pockets!
What Does It Look Like A Few Months On?
So, you’re probably wondering…”How does the colour look a few months after colouring?”. I’m about to show you what it looks like about 4 months on, and I’m still in love with the colour. I still use purple shampoo to maintain the colour and I haven’t touched up my hair since.
