L'Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré

L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré Review – Better Than A Trip to Hair Salon?

So… I’m back with another hair post again today, and somehow I managed to keep the secret on how my hair turned out after doing balayage ombré on myself! I went for a balayage technique rather than ombré, as it blends the highlights better with my natural coloured hair. There are plenty of Youtube videos that show you the various techniques people used for this kit. I used my fingers to apply the colour, as it gave me a better ability to blend the colour. I used the new L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré kit to lighten up my hair and I’m about to tell you how it turned out!

L'Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré

Just A Pre-Warning!

Please, please, please always do a skin test before you apply any hair dyes! I wouldn’t want anyone to have an allergic reaction! This post was not sponsored, I was just really interested in doing my own hair, so I wanted to brave it!

I’ve also had my hair lightened about twice before using this kit, so my hair was already relatively light. However, I decided to lighten it further, as my current balayage ombré had started to go brassy again. People who have never used bleach in their hair and also have relatively dark hair may only see a very small difference from dark brown to a lighter brown. If you are to achieve a more blonder ombré, you may need to use the kit a further once or twice – obviously leaving some time for your hair to repair.

This was my hair before applying the Colorista kit:

Affordability

“I spend approximately £100 on every hair salon trip, so the L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré saved me £90! It’s better than going to the hair salon to maintain your colour!”

The kit is a very affordable £7.99! It is definitely better for those who are on a budget, as opposed to spending around £60-100 in a hair salon!

How Long Does It Take To Use the L’Oréal Colorista Kit?

From applying the dye, to rinsing it out with the shampoo included with the kit, it took just under 2 hours. It took me 35 minutes to apply the dye to my hair, because I have thick and fine long hair.

This was what my hair looked like after I finished applying the lightener:

“Good things take time to happen right?”

I developed the dye in my hair for approximately 40-minutes for maximum lift, and checked on my hair every so often. I did not wrap my hair in foil or film, but I know that this can help those who have never bleached their hair before.

My hair after 40-minutes:

Looking at the difference between the pictures before 40-minutes and after 40-minutes, there is definitely a visible change in how much the colour has developed!

“You may feel silly with a towel wrapped around you, but it’s better than ruining your clothes!”

So, What Was Your Verdict?

My verdict of the L’Oreal Colorista Effects Ombré kit is a pretty positive one. The technique I used made it easy to blend the colour and it lightened my hair at least another 1-2 shades. You can see my hair after my last hair salon treatment here for comparison!

“I am definitely more blonde now than I was before.”

The great thing about this kit is that you don’t have to be an expert to use it. The kit comes with great instructions on how to mix the product. However, I would highly suggest going on YouTube first to see the variety of techniques people used. The only thing I didn’t like about the product is the strong smell of ammonia. Make sure you use the product in a well-ventilated room and keep your windows open!

How Do You Reduce Brassiness of Your Hair After Treatment?

Two words….purple. shampoo. Shampoos and conditioners that are for blondes normally contain violet pigments. These violet pigments help to counteract any brassy tones that are left following the lifting of the colour pigment in your hair. If you have naturally dark hair like me, you are more likely to be susceptible to brassy tones. If you’re interested in the best purple shampoo and conditioner that I’ve found that works, you can read about my Redken Blonde Idol review here!

SHOW US WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!!!

Okay, okay I probably saved the best to last, but here are the pictures of my hair after using the L’Oréal Colorista Effects Ombré:

Straight Hair, Don’t Care…

Wavy Hair, Mermaid Hair…

So I guess the kit works! I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out! Now I won’t fear the dreaded box dyes, and trying to have a little courage to be braver actually did me a favour – especially for my pockets!

I found this really interesting, I can’t fully dye my hair because of a skin condition but I can try ombre so I think that I will have to check the loreal dye sometimes since it looks so good! x

Aww thank you so much! That’s a shame, but I really hope the ingredients in the L’Oréal dye don’t affect your skin! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and leave a comment 😊x

Thank you so much! Me too to be honest, because I normally spend about 3 hours in a salon waiting for the colour to lift because my hair is so stubborn haha! I definitely agree! Thank you so much for reading!xx

The fact that your hair is dark and you were still able to dye it gives me hope with my hair. I’ll def be looking to try L’oreal’s colorista effects when I dye my hair!

I was quite surprised too! I was dying some of the darker parts and it lifted so well, although it took a little longer for my hair to lift! Thank you for reading and I hope the Colorista works for you as well 😊

Hi, That’s an impressive result it seems to have really lifted the colour and a great alternative to the salon which is much cheaper.

Thank you so much! Oh gosh the prices at the salon are a mare! I’ve always paid to have mine done and this was the only time I’ve ever done my own balayage ombré haha!xx

It’s incredibly how much money you can save by doing it at home rather than going to a salon! I’ve used home dye kits before to create a balayage effect and I was never impressed with the results so I always go to a salon but I really like the sound of this kit! Your hair also looks stunning! xx

I definitely agree! Aww no that’s disappointing! I’ve never tried any box sets to balayage my hair until now, so I wish I could speak on past experiences. If you decide to try again, I really hope the Colorista works for you! Thank you so much lovely!xx
