3 Essential Hair Products You NEED to Make Your Curls Last Longer

You clicked on this page, so I’m guessing you want to learn the secret on how to make your curls last longer!

“Jenny, how do you always get your hair so curly?!”

My friends have always asked me what my secret is for keeping my hair curly all day. So, I’m about to reveal all! You only need 3 ESSENTIAL HAIR PRODUCTS in your life.

First of All, What Do I Even Use To Curl My Hair?

I use a straightener, rather than a curling wand/barrel. I have found that straighteners are much more effective at helping my hair hold a curl. This is because I have more control over how tight or loose I want the curls. My hair is naturally stick straight, so straighteners stops my hair from being so frizzy. I personally use the Babyliss Vintage Glamour Ceramic Smooth 230.

How Do I Prep My Hair Before Styling?

Before styling my hair, I ALWAYS wash my hair. (Some people may disagree with this step, as they believe that natural oils in your hair eases the process when styling your hair. So, feel free to skip this!) The most important step is to ALWAYS condition after shampooing. This will help your hair seal in moisture. There is more about this on my post on haircare here!

Following towel-drying my hair, I like to use 1-2 pumps of the L’Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil 100ml on the lengths of my damp hair. This helps to detangle and rehydrate my hair. The oil is also the runnier version, I like to use the thicker 50ml oil following styling my hair. I then blow-dry my hair until it is completely dry.

What Are the 3 Products You NEED to Make Your Curls Last Longer?!

Lee Stafford CoCo LoCo Heat Protection Spray

I start off by spritzing the CoCo LoCo Heat Protection Spray all over the lengths of my hair. This prevents my hair from being heat damaged. It’s a lightweight spray, so it won’t weigh down your curls. I can now style my hair using the straightener!

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil 50ml

I love to use one pump of this oil after styling my hair. This helps to smooth out any fly-away hair, and really finishes off the curls to give it a polished look.

TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray

I use this TRESemmé hairspray all over my hair to keep my curls in place all day. It’s a fine spray, so it shouldn’t add weight to your curls. It doesn’t cause your hair to stick together, so it allows your hair to be free-flowing all day.

Love how you’re rocking your curls! I use a straightener to curl my hair as well! I have a hard time with wands and I’m super paranoid about them! I didn’t know there’s a proper way to prep your hair before curling them! Thanks for sharing these tips!

Aww, thank you so much Nancy!! Wands I find are great if you’re looking for a more messier look haha, mine always look more like beauty waves when I use a wand. It’s just the way I’ve found that helps mine last longer, so hopefully it may help a few people! Thank you for reading as always lovely!

Great post, Jenny! I haven’t used a curling wand/ iron in years. I LOVE using my straightener, and I do agree that the curls hold longer. 🙂

Thank you so much Madison! Your hair is naturally gorgeous, it doesn’t even need the heat, I’m so envious! Haha, definitely, my straightener is my best friend!

Love your curls, Jenny! I personally avoid to curl my hair right after I wash it, because it’s too soft and gets back to its normal state after a few hours.

    • April 22, 2018 / 8:56 pm

Thank you so much Siyana! I normally leave about 20-30 minutes before curling my hair, but yeah I’ve done it the uncommon way, as most people prefer to curl their hair the next day after washing it. Thank you for reading!

I have naturally curly hair which I love but it’s also such a pain sometimes. I want to get a curl defining cream or something so I look more put together- I know morrocanoil has a good one. They’re definitely one of my favorite hair care brands!

    • April 22, 2018 / 9:10 pm

Ahh so envious, I literally have to get up an hour earlier to get my hair done. Curl-defining cream is always a good idea! Moroccanoil is literally my fave, I love using the oil on my hair! Thank you for reading!

Your curls are popping, Jenny! Truth be told, I still struggle trying to curl my hair with a straightener, despite how many tutorials I watch – my hair is that stubborn.

Hi Jenny! Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!
Even though my hair is probably more wavy than curly, it’s interesting to hear about good hair products as I actually don’t have a lot of hair product knowledge myself!
    Nice post!

Your hair is so pretty!! My curls always droop and fall out, but I think its more because of my hair type! I always end up pinning each curl so I look like a grandma before taking them out! Haha! Ill have to use your tips to see if there is any difference!! xx

Thank you so much lovely! Aww that’s a shame, but you’re definitely doing the right thing by doing that! I’ve tried pinning my curls once, but it was way too curly haha! I hope the tips work for you!xx

Your hair looks great! I don’t curl my hair often but would love too do it more often, I think next time I’ll use these tips and invest in some of the products.

LOVE the lighter parts in your hair, I use CoCo LoCo too but when I straighten my hair to protect it from the heat, I agree with what you said it is so lighweight I love it, I also use an oil when I straighten my hair too, I haven’t tried the loreal one though! Great post Jenny! xxx

    • April 25, 2018 / 5:43 am

Thank you so much Sharnah! Doesn’t it smell gorgeous as well?! Oil literally makes the world of difference haha! It’s so good, I would highly recommend it. Thank you lovely!xxx
