THE CONFESSIONS OF AN ONLINE SHOPAHOLIC IS ONE YEAR’S OLD!
So, The Confessions of an Online Shopaholic finally reaches its big milestone. If only I could do the celebration effect that occurs when you send “congratulations” to someone on iMessage! I honestly can’t believe that my blog is already one year’s old. Where did the time go?! The style of my blog, the theme of my blog, the platform I used for my blog all changed in the space of 365 days.
It was about 5-months into starting my blog on WordPress.com, that I decided to make the big move and go self-hosted. I decided I wanted to have more flexibility over the theme and my own domain to add some professionalism. I transferred to WordPress.org and used BlueHost as my website host. I’ve not regretted it since!
I started off using the ‘Freyja‘ theme by Sparrow & Snow, which was a fantastic theme. If you have been following my blog for quite some time, you may remember the theme below!
I am now currently using the ‘Linda’ theme by Themes Art, which I purchased off Etsy. There are so many fantastic themes that you can buy from Etsy, and I’d highly recommend taking a look!
My First Blog Post
I hit the ‘publish’ button for the first time on 7th January 2017. This marked the beginning of The Confessions of an Online Shopaholic! It was a post on my New Year’s Eve trip to Birmingham with my boyfriend, and ideas for what to do for it. I haven’t edited the post, to show how my style of writing has changed over the year. I look back at it now and I’m face-palming and cringing already! If you want to take a read, it’s ‘TRAVEL: NYE 2016 IN BIRMINGHAM, UK‘.
Were There Any Lows?
With blogging, there always comes high and low points. The worst lows are when you spend hours, days and weeks planning and writing a blog post and the views are at rock bottom. But, as a blogger you learn so many new skills, such as how to market your own content. If the views aren’t hitting certain targets I set in my mind, I need to find a way to reach people, and social media is my saviour!
I would say the positives have definitely outweighed any low points during my blogging journey. Sometimes I forget that people are even reading my blog, because I enjoy writing as a hobby. The best feeling is knowing when someone enjoys my content by the comments that are left on the post!
Do You Have A Key Highlight?
My key highlight of the year has to be when my blog post on the ‘L’Oréal Colorista Ombré Kit Review‘ hit the first page on Google! No feeling is better than when that happens as a blogger. Especially, when you work really hard to produce content that everyone searches for. It was honestly so lovely when I had people messaging me for advice! It even came as a shock to me to find people actually venturing into their local drugstore to pick up a box to try it on themselves. I didn’t even think I had any sort of influence over people until that moment, and it was a moment in my blog career that I always think of whenever I go through stages of not wanting to blog.
Since starting this blog, I’ve been so fortunate to be able to work with many wonderful brands and companies. I never dreamed of being contacted by people who want me to promote their products or services. I count my lucky stars everyday that I get such fantastic opportunities.
My first ever collaboration was with the wonderful YourDesign.co.uk. They collaborated with me during my relocation to my new house. It was great timing, as I needed some finishing touches. I got to design a poster and have it printed, and get my blog logo printed on something for the first time. At this point I realised that my blog could have some potential. I originally started it because of my love for creative writing and sharing experiences.
Around August time I got the most biggest collaboration opportunity that I still feel in disbelief about. I got chosen to be an ambassador for Botanics UK! There was a time where I was stacking shelves in Boots, and I came across their products for the first time. It still feels surreal every time I go shopping in Boots knowing that I help to represent the brand. In that same month, I was one of the the top 25 creators for Botanics! I was sent a wonderful Bloom & Wild bouquet, because what girl doesn’t love flowers?!
A summary of other fantastic opportunities was that I finally got recognised in my local area (Cheshire), and was invited to my first press event! It was at Kuckoo, which is a new bar in Knutsford. It was a fantastic evening that I luckily got to enjoy with my best friends and boyfriend.
I was one of the lucky ones to receive my first ever Influenster Voxbox, which I am still over-the-moon about! It was the Bourjois Holiday Collection, and I couldn’t believe it when I received an email saying I was chosen.
