Why The Deep?
I thought it was about time I visited Hull, as it was named the UK’s City of Culture in 2017. I had searched up aquariums around the UK two year’s ago, and came across The Deep. It has since been on my list of aquariums to visit, purely because of its Two Rivers Restaurant!
I travelled almost 3 hours on the train to get to Hull, but I wasn’t disappointed! The architecture of the aquarium building is just as stunning as the interior. We visited on Valentine’s Day as our little date. It probably wasn’t the best day to pick considering it was the school holidays as well. It was extremely busy, but we already factored this in.
Despite how busy it was and the massive queue we waited in before getting it, it was very spacious inside. I got to see my favourites, which are jellyfish, turtles, clownfish and axolotls. So, I left a happy bunny! I even got to see Leaf Cutter Ants in action! I’ve only ever seen them on TV and videos, but it was so interesting seeing them in person!
How Was The Two Rivers Restaurant?
The Two Rivers Restaurant was one of the most romantic and intimate dates that me and Tom have been on. We’ve dined in various Michelin restaurants, in fancy hotels, etc. But, nothing compared to this! We were so fortunate to get such a good seat. I’m one of those people who gets really anxious when I’m placed in a restaurant where I can’t look up or else I’ll lock eyes with some stranger. If I feel uncomfortable with the seating in a restaurant, it instantly ruins the entire meal for me. It’s the most irrational thing, but I can’t help it.
However, on this occasion I was seated on the far left of the massive fish tank and there were massive spacings between us and other surrounding couples. I just felt so relaxed and at ease. It was so pleasant, because during natural breaks in conversations, you could look up and admire the beautiful fish swimming by. We were also placed in the jellyfish room, which is quieter and has a more romantic setting.
The waitress was so lovely and massive credits to her for being so attentive. We were allowed to walk around parts of the aquarium while waiting for our food. We had a 3-course meal, which included a Strawberry Bellini, which is one of my favourites!
“If you want dinner date in an aquarium on a budget rather than flying to Dubai, the Two Rivers is for you!”
Would I Recommend This Aquarium?
Not throwing shade at Sea Life, because I love the chain. But, The Deep definitely blew it out of the water. It’s a place I would love to take my future children, because it’s so interactive. There’s so much to see, and you can spend a good 1 hour to 1 hour and a half here.
Tickets are very reasonably priced too! It was £12.50 each for a student ticket, adult tickets are £13.50 and child (3-15) is £11.50. If you book online in advance, it is slightly cheaper. The journey from my hotel (I stayed at Doubletree Hilton) was fairly reasonable too, at £4.50 one-way.
